- Are you working to make your school greener?
Yes we are, but not as much as we would like. This is due to lack of resources to implement large-scale changes.
- What are you doing / have you done?
The student council has implemented a traffic-light system for litter in the school playground.
There has recently been built a new cycle park, now more students can cycle to school (this is encouraged). Double the number of students can now cycle.
The catering department uses locally sourced food where possible.
The council was called in to put double yellow lines outside the school to discourage parents dropping children off in cars.
- Do students support you in this mission?
Yes, the school council does (indicated by above thing).
In little ways all students do their bit - picking up litter etc…
- Is it something your school takes very seriously?
Tried with buildings
- Do you think you would benefit from external assistance in making your school greener?
If so, in what?
More grants available sooner.
Case in point would be when we put in plans for a new sports hall. We hoped to put solar panels on it, but it was not possible to secure the funding. More assistance for greener buildings and technologies would be nice.
- Are green issues covered in timetabled lessons or extra-curricular sessions (tutorials)?
There are learning enrichment lessons which cover the environment topic, PSE lessons also tackle 'healthy living'. The school is a specialist science and technology school, so feels responsibility for green technology.
