Mitochondrial DNA
An Informational Guide on the Origin of Human Evolution

Cro-Magnon

For many years, scientists have been debating whether Homo sapiens evolved from Cro-Magnons or whether they were an independently developed species. Though it is inevitable that both had striking similarities, archaeogeneticists found that the Cro-Magnons filtered into Europe around the time that Homo sapiens emerged in the African heartlands. Through mitochondrial analysis, scientists have found that as the Cro-Magnons were diminishing, the Homo sapiens (our human ancestors) emerged. As time went on, the Cro-Magnons became extinct and the Homo Sapiens continued on. During this time, Mitochondrial Eve wad born. She was a female Homo Sapien whose DNA was "lucky" enough to be passed on as a dominant DNA coding. It is theorized that Mitochondrial Eve’s children migrated throughout the world and eventually formed the base of the world’s population. Although, it is not known how exactly Homo sapiens evolved, mitochondrial analysis has certainly brought us a step closer to uncovering the truth.
