At the hills in Cheddar Gorge, Britain, the remains of a man were found in 1903. By using carbon-dating, he was found to be nine-thousand years old. This was 3,000 years before farming reached Britain. By analyzing mDNA, it was found that he had existed 7,000 years before farming reached Britain. This is consistent with the types of tools found with him. By using mDNA analysis, scientists were able to be extremely precise in their calculations of the Cheddar Man’s age. This was was more accurate than carbon dating that had been used before to determine the man's age.
