Creating New Life Form
Hold and behold, Dr. Craig Venter, the man behind the sequencing of the human genome, has revealed his current project–creating a mind-boggling genetically-engineered life form that not only removes carbon dioxide from the air but also provide us with fuel for energy.
According to Dr. Venter, he is 18 months away from completing a code or system that enables him to command the miniscule organisms into becoming solar-powered fuel-producing industrial units.
A simplified explanation of this whole project is to synthesize a new life form using some of those artificial chromosomes we have lying around and some existing life forms. Next, reproduce them billions of times. Then, nourish them with some of our old carbon dioxide. Thereafter, accumulate the methane gas the tiny life forms egest. Finally, produce them on a large scale in factories and provide the world with a viable form of fuel source.
These new life forms would require large amounts of carbon dioxide (e.g. from carbon dioxide sequester fields) to change the carbon dioxide to oil at optimum efficiencies. The systems might work with sequestered carbon dioxide and hence, input is readily available.Biotechnology once again proved its prowess as Dr. Venter said that through modification of the genes of the life forms, the octane of the fuel produced can be adjusted to the one that is desirable. In addition, by choosing the finest of millions of molecules, he can "unnaturally select" the premium oil producers.
