Aim of the study
  • To investigate the relationship between teaching quality and the attitude of high school students towards mathematics.
  • To explore students' stereotyping of mathematics and mathematicians.
  • To explore students' awareness of the wide applications of mathematics across different fields.
  • To compare the results between countries.
Methodology
  • Eight schools in eight countries were chosen to participate in the survey. They are: Austria, Germany, Egypt, Tunisia, China, England, France, and Ukraine.
  • These schools/countries were chosen for convenience: we have friends in these countries who kindly helped us with data collection.
  • Within the school, we randomly chose 50 students of the same grade (not necessarily the same class). The survey were administered to the students either online (in the form of an online poll), or as a hand-out questionnaire.
  • In total. we surveyed 400 students from 8 different countries.
  • The tallies were done by the data collector, which were sent back to the Math Mov!es team for analysis.

The questionnaire is available for download here.
