Mathematics is for genius only
Many students agree with you...
Our survey, consisting of 400 students from 8 different countries, shows that 32% students think so. In other words, one in every three students think that mathematicians are geniuses.

But it is not true!!!
People in all professions need mathematics! If we define “genius” as someone whose intelligence is in the top 1/1000 of the population, then clearly there are a lot more people needing, using, and improving mathematics compared to the number of geniuses! So mathematics cannot only be for geniuses! Mathematical thinking and study is important for all fields.

I hate mathematics
Are people born with the hating-math disease? No!
Our survey, consisting of 400 students from 8 different countries, shows that our attitude towards mathematics is strongly influenced by our Math teacher. If you think mathematics is well-taught, you would also tend to like it. So don't say “I hate mathematics” too soon – give it another go, perhaps with a website like Math Mov!es as your teaching guide!

If I do humanities subjects, I don't need mathematics
Would your job involve medicine? Law? Psychology? Then you definitely need mathematics.
Our survey, consisting of 400 students from 8 different countries, shows that more than 60% of students believe that mathematics is important for engineering, science, and medicine; however, less than 5% believe that mathematics is needed in law and psychology.
Many psychology students had the same thinking, and were very surprised to find that statistics is a compulsory subject in psychology in most universities! The applicability of mathematics in these fields is best expressed by professionals. Click here to check out our interview with them.
