The San Francisco Garter is a really fantastic animal. In 1966 it was one of the first species to be listed when the federal government enacted the endangered species Act.

The San Francisco garter snake is known to be one of the most beautiful Garter Snakes out of eleven. The Garter snake has a wide dorsal stripe that is greenish yellow, edged with black, bordered with a red stripe and then black again. Its belly is a pretty bright turquoise. Because of its red stripe it is commonly mistaken for the Red-sided garter snake. They can get to be as big as 3 feet.

They can be found around water, ponds, steams, ditches, or even marshes. Females give birth to live young. She can have up to two dozen.
