Latex can help make "real monsters" out of a type of rubber. This is spread on the actor face, and then painted. It is what made the Grinch the Grinch! And it is also what made many of the monsters on TV who they are. Or.. at least their faces.

In the Nutty Professor, they made the clumps on the actor's face by puttin geltain-like stuff under the latex.
