Keep in mind the 3Rs: "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"
- Reduce the amount of rubbish you discard by reusing things whenever possible.
- Draft notes can be written on rough paper.
- Cardboards can be made into beautiful decorations.
- Recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass, aluminum cans and all recyclable products. By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 1100 kg of carbon dioxide annually.
Use Less Heat and Air Conditioning
- By reducing the amount of energy you need to heat and cool your home, this can lower your heating costs more than 25%!
- Turn off the heat and air conditioning while you are away.
- Setting your temperature regulator just 2 degrees lower in winter and higher in summer could save about 900kg of carbon dioxide each year.
Buy Energy-Efficient Products and use them efficiently
- Use energy saving appliances.
- Replace normal light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL)/ energy-efficient bulbs.
- Replacing just one 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a CFL will save you $30 over the life of the bulb. CFLs are also 10 times brighter than incandescent bulbs, use two-thirds less energy, and give off 70 percent less heat.
Reduce usage of Water
- Fix all dripping water taps.
- Set your water heater at 120 degrees to save energy, and wrap it in an insulating blanket if it is more than 5 years old.
- Buy low-flow showerheads to save hot water and about 160 kg of carbon dioxide yearly.
- Turn off the water when you're not using it.
- Use a mug while brushing your teeth.
Only turn on appliances when you need them
- Only turn on appliances when you need them.
- Remember to turn off your television, video player, stereo and computer when they are not in use.
- Unplug any appliances like mobile phone chargers, TVs, microwaves, MP3 players, which are not being used and are on standby.

In School/Local Community
- Start a recycling program
- Start an Environmental Club
- Start an Environmental interest club at your school and set goals to curb your school's energy use.
- Turning off appliances when they are not in need.
- Save electricity by turning off lights when you leave a room, and using only as much light as you need.
- Do not leave computers/appliances on (even if on stand-by) if they are not in use.
- Reduce use of Paper
- Encourage administrators to only purchase recycled paper products (including toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, etc.) at your school.
- Make a rule that all multi-page documents are run double-sided.
- Educate Your Parents
- Take the issue of global warming to parent meetings to educate the parents on the urgency of this issue.
- No Waste at School Meals and Events
- Reduce use of Styrofoam plates, juice boxes, water bottles, plastic bags, etc. in your cafeteria and at school parties.

Daily Activities
- Whenever possible, be sure to use public transportation.
- Take the school bus or public transport to school instead of taking your parent's car for example, will be a simple step to reduce carbon emission.
- Avoid using the car on short trips that could be made by foot.
- Buy fresh foods instead of frozen
- Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce.
- Encourage Others to Conserve
- Share information about recycling and energy conservation with your friends, neighbors and co-workers, and take opportunities to encourage public officials to establish programs and policies that are good for the environment.
