Welcome
Panda

The Giant Panda lives in the bamboo forests of Central China.

They are about 1.2 – 1.5 meters long and 75 cm high.  They can weigh between 75 – 160kg.  Giant Pandas have white fur with black legs, shoulders, ears and patches around the eyes.

Giant Pandas are very good climbers.  They also swim very well.  But they can not stand on only two legs.

A Giant Panda will have 2 babies in August or September but will only bring one of them up.  The other will die.  When they are born they are pink and very small, 90 – 130 grams.  They stay with their mothers until they are 18 – 24 months old.

Giant Pandas do not hibernate and can live up to 30 years old in captivity.  They are actually carnivores but their diet is mostly herbivorous.  Their main food is bamboo.

Giant Pandas are becoming endangered because their habitat and food source is becoming reduced.
