~Conclusion~

Electronic games are hard to resist, being all around us. Entertaining and fun, they can take us to a world free of worries. But sadly, there are two sides of a coin, so they can be bad for us too. Addiction is one of many bad effects on us.

Addiction is when we play those games too much, so much that we can't stop. Why can't we stop? Why are we so obbsessed? We did a servey and found that most people who liked to play computer games said it was because  they were fun and exciting. A lot of young people have boring lives, school and work are not interesting, so they want fun in their lives. Lack of money and energy cause them to stay at home playing free computer games.
One person in the servey answered ' There’s usually a target in the games, so when you meets the target, you’ll feel good '. A lot of people have unsucsessful lives, and instead of getting a grip on life and making use of it, they waste time trying to gain virtual money, goods and achievements. They like the feeling of winning, so play for more and more, and get addicted. They might even forget about the real world for a while.

So what is the big deal, you may ask? Well, getting addicted can have negative effects on our health, social life, academical results, and others. When they play to long we forget to eat, drink, and go to the toilet, or at least untill they finish the games. At night they might not sleep until late. Also, staring too long at the computer hurts our eyes. People don't do exercise. And when we play solo games too much, we don't communicate with others and lose friends. Also, poeple play too much and don't study or do their homework, so they have low marks for homework and exams. Adults don't want to work. You see that seriously addicted people postpone what they have to do until they finish their games, which might take hours or even days. They bring more trouble into their lives, making them sink deeper into the 'virtual world of fun'.

Here is an example:'My son plays online games and will play for 12 or 14 hours straight, every single day if no one objects, playing from the time he wakes up till he falls asleep in the early hours of the morning. He'll skip meals to play. He will wait till we have gone to bed and then play games till 3 or 4 in the morning every single night. Of course he cannot get up at 7am to go to school. For the past two years he's had a more amenable schedule at Berkeley Independent Studies with all appointments scheduled for after 1pm. He has never been very academically motivated, and the computer addiction greatly exacerbated the academic problem. He is no longer in school - he is waiting to take the high school equivalency exam. He is a good kid, sweet, and he has other (non-academic) interests and talents besides the computer. His social life comes ahead of computer games, so the problem is not completely desperate, but computer use continues to be a big big problem. It uses up all his time and keeps him from other activities like music and recreation. He is not writing computer programs or being otherwise creative. He is playing games for hours and hours on end. '(Found on http://parents.berkeley.edu/advice/teens/gameaddiction.html )

But the computer games are not all bad. Some games can make people more alert and awake.“People tend to feel more alert and energized after playing. Some people have actually replaced coffee with Lumosity to start their days,” said Michael Scanlon, chief science officer of Lumos Labs, the company behind Lumosity. (Lumosity is a computer game)In an article on laptopmag.com, it said:'Scanlon and his colleagues at Lumos Labs have reported that 40 percent of subjects felt happier, experienced elevated moods, and had heightened alertness after playing Lumosity for at least one session.' This shows that computer games can actualy make people happier, and being happy can't be all bad, right?

So what can we do?

So now that we no how bad it is to be addicted, how can we prevent or overcome it? Here are some suggestion made by some people we asked
-Set time limits for yourself
-Block the websites on my computer, try to do other things instead to distract myself
-Play less
- throw the computer into a rubbish bin.
-Unplug the internet or maybe just unplug the computer
-Read a book
-only play educational games
-only play boring games
-list all bad effects of addictiveness
Now the 4th suggestion is not very good, because we need the computer forwork and homework. The first 2 and the last one is perhaps the best. You can enroll  in some activities, be it sports, drama, art.

~Finally~

Now dear reader, that you have heard our opinion, I belive you have yours. How long you want to play computer games is your concern. But for a better life, you should limit yourself, and spread the word to your friends and family.

Good luck!
