Ethernet Over Power

Ethernet Over Power Diagram

Power Over Ethernet technology allows IP telephones, wireless LAN Access Points and other embedded computer appliances to receive power as well as data over existing LAN cabling to remote devices using standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network. It allows the electrical current necessary for the operation of each device to be carried by the data cables rather than the power cords.

This technology enables devices such as network cameras, remote network switches, embedded computers, and other appliances where it would be inconvenient, expensive or not feasible to supply power separately. Power over Ethernet offers new options to system designers by providing an economical and flexible deployment of networked devices.
