WWW - World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is the probably the most common way that we use the internet. You can see this throughout the interviews and surveys we conducted on the ‘We use it for…’ page.
People often say that the World Wide Web is the internet. Wrong! The internet is a network, and the World Wide Web is using this network.
The World Wide Web is defined as:
"World Wide Web - The term is often mistakenly used as a synonym for the Internet itself, but the Web is actually something that is available over the Internet, just like e-mail and many other Internet services. It is also part of the URL or web address."
"A hypermedia information storage system which links computer-based resources around the world. Computer programs called Browsers enable words or icons called hyperlinks to display, text, video, graphics and sound on a computer screen..."
How does it work?
Viewing a web page, on the World Wide Web, usually starts by typing the URL of the page into a web browser as you can see in the image at the top of the page, or by following a hyperlink to the page. The web browser then begins a number of communication messages, behind the scenes, in order to fetch and display the information. Most web pages will themselves contain hyperlinks to other related pages and various other web resources.
