Our Collaborations

Now, let us tell u more on how this aspiring team of 5 very different individuals has ‎worked together to make our amazingly different ideals come true in the one and only ‎site:‎ Our team basically worked upon the concept of specialization. An official meeting was held every weekend where the work was split evenly among us. Guoxiang, whom enjoyed learning new things and practical hands on activities did the interactivity aspects by specializing in javascript generating random images, quotes and linked the whole site. Geraldine, whom was the most asthetically inclined, did the asthetics for the site by specializing in graphics with the use of adobe photoshop and web design by being proficient in the use of the Cascading Style Sheet. Esther, whom expressed an interest in the scientific aspects of fire due to her father's influence did the more technical content on fire. Shitong, being both studious and artistically inclined at the same time, assisted Geraldine in the aesthetic aspects of CSS, design and the content section on fire prevention. Kenneth, being the most artistically inclined and expressing a love for fantasy and culture inspired by his love for computer games contributed by providing the content for Culture, Religion and Mythology. Having some knowledge on computing, Kenneth, Shitong and Esther converted their content into HTML format to save guoxiang the trouble. We came up with a timeline stating when we would complete certain sections during the weekly meetings. During every meeting we compiled our achievements for the week and gave each other constructive ideas. The nature of our roles were also very flexible. Because everyone took the subject computing and each of us had access to information sources like the library and the internet, we were able to help each other out. For example, Geraldine helped out with the content aspect on religion after she was done with the web design and guoxiang also helped with the designing for the template for the main page.

Diversity

We may look the same. We may appear similar. BUT, what lies beneath this Fire team of ‎‎5 different individuals?‎

The team basically comprises of members all from Singapore, except for Shitong who is a scholar from China studying in Singapore. They also studied in the same school with 4 out of 5 of the team members belonging to the same class and all of them the same age except for Shitong who was 1 year older. In the revelation of this, how can the team be truly diverse? Everyone seemed to have the same educational background however, the interests and family background of the team members greatly differed. Esther had a father whom was a fire investigator.Due to his influence, her perspective of fire was one from an extremely scientific approach. Guoxiang's perspective of fire was mainly on cooking since he was from scouts and viewed fire from a very simplistic view, thus representing the general public's view of fire--namely for cooking and warmth, with little consideration for the deeper meaning of fire. Geraldine was a buddhist, thus her perspective of fire was as a medium of transfer between the human role and the spiritual world and a sacred entity, thus she was able to provide Kenneth with sources for fire in religion. Shitong is a member of the Chinese Society thus she viewed fire from the Chinese perspective, fire was a symbolism of challenge, being able to strengthen a person's will. Fire also symbolised rebirth in the image of a phoenix, one of the most exalted creatures in Chinese mythology besides the dragon, thus she was able to provide content and perspectives of fire in different cultures. Kenneth's perspective of fire came mostly from computer games, which depicted fire as destructive forces. Ever enthusiastic to see things from a broader perspective, Kenneth offered to do the content on mythology, religion and culture, gaining much knowledge and insights in the process. For content, the sources for the site came from a variety of sources. The sources ranged from books of international standards, like the book produced by the National Fire Prevention Association, to articles from the web such as the section on fire prevention where a variety of government standards for fire prevention ranged from England to Canada to Singapore. The content for religion coming from websites ranging from the Buddhist encyclopedia, which is straight from a buddhist source, to Enzine Articles, a source providing information in general thus from a more neutral perspective meant for the public in general.
