Shitong

shi tong

Hi! I am from China currently study in Dunman High School, Singapore. ‎ Let me introduce myself in a few words! My name, Shitong, should be pronounced as Shi ‎Tong, but some of my friends actually pronounce it as Shit Ong, this is obviously not my ‎parents' intention. And this is another joke about my name. During my English course, ‎my teacher asked me "Does your father play Mahjong very often and like it a lot?" I was ‎very confused when i heard that, then she continued, "Why did your father call you si ‎tong(4 dots, tile in Mahjong) ?”My father was amused when he heard the comment from ‎my teacher, he told me he would never thought that my name can be associated with such ‎a wonderful traditional culture of Chinese!

‎ ‎

This year(2008) is my first year in computing. Before this, I had never knew or done ‎anything technical and relevant to building of a website. Our group was formed during ‎the later times of the competition, so we have been rushing for the website ever since we ‎just started. And as a result of the withdrawal of a few of our teammates, everyone’s jop ‎scope had to diversify, ranging from content to anything technical. Personally, I found the ‎process refreshing and exciting, but of course, tiring. I also found out that, people can ‎really stay active and energetic with out sleep for 48 hours! However, if you did sleep for ‎only a significantly short period, say 2 to 3 hours, you will suffer from dizziness and ‎sleepiness for the whole of the next day. (Imagine that on a typical school day from 8am-‎‎5pm!) During the construction of our ThinkQuest site, I had to juggle between my other ‎homework, projects and ThinkQuest. Here are two important lessons I have learnt from ‎this experience: Always prioritize your time and do not do last minute work. (haha!)

‎ ‎

My role and job scope for ThinkQuest are relatively broad. Previously, I was on the ‎hunt for content—fire tips, after which, I worked with my teammate Geraldine on the ‎CSS and graphics, and converted some content into the html format. However at the end ‎of the day, Guo Xiang told me that I was using the wrong template. ~~~oh, half a day of ‎hard-work!

‎ ‎

I really enjoyed the process of building our very own website, to see our ideas come ‎true. And, I will never forget the emotional support that has been given to me by all my ‎friends and teammates. Thank you!
