Possible causes of child trafficking
Unemployment
This is a major problem that many African countries are facing, having a high population of unemployed citizens. That may lead to practice of various crimes. Child trafficking is one of practiced crime. This is mostly done in rural areas where unemployment and poverty is highly rated. This movement of children from rural areas to urban areas is very common and set to be a better way of giving them a ‘better life’ .
These victims are trafficked to different places to do different jobs. The will not recognize it as slavery but they will see it as a chance of getting employed. Even their parents are ignorant of the risks of giving their children to the traffickers “at least my child got a job” that what’s rules their minds .the UNICEF research shows that most trafficked children come from families with five or more children, this clearly shows that parents cannot attend to provide needs for children by means of unemployment, so to hand over children to traffickers is on option to them.
Lack
of vocational opportunities and insufficient educational opportunities
People from rural areas are mostly oppressed with issues of not being provided with good education in that manner lack of vocational opportunities are high rated.
Many people from that area can therefore accept every offer given to them and do not consider the risks. This lack of vocational opportunities causes traffickers to get an opportunity to misuse people who are uneducated and it becomes so easy for traffickers to deceive them. Even though victims are mislead by traffickers they do not bother asking questions concerning the offer provided to then they just take and accept everything given to them thinking that they will be having a better life.
Insufficient
funds in developing countries to maintain needs of the country.
Developing countries have adopted a style of child trafficking in order to avoid high costs, on account of the fact that they lack on employing professionals or adults to do the work of which it wont be easy to double–cross them on their payments.
Civil wars are the factor that lead to child labour they use these children to fight for them where else these young soldiers wont get any rewards for what they did. This is because these countries cannot afford reasonable payment for these victims. This mostly happens to Africans informal economies they demand cheap malleable labourers
High
profit, low risks
However this child trafficking is illegal but there are low risks from it. This really increases the rate of trafficked people. Traffickers make a lot of money from doing such business. They have illegal connections worldwide but it’s hard for government to track them down. The UN estimates that trafficking in persons generates $7 to $10 billion annually for traffickers. A low risk of trafficking in persons is done by lack of efficient practice of anti-slavery laws. This makes traffickers to have an access to traffic victims’ wherever they want.
Since this trafficking business is profitable, traffickers earn a lot of money, the recruiter may earn $50 to $1000 a child delivered to the employer. Profits vary according to the source countries, destinations& use of the trafficked person. An African child trafficked to US might net a trafficker $10000 to $20000 due to US immigration and service.
Social
factors
There are some situations of a breakdown of traditional family structure, the death of one or both parents. That family faces difficulties that it cannot overcome the needs of the family and greed may contribute to a family’s decision (to place a child as a head member of the family that child can be handed over to the traffickers in order bear needs of the family).
Non-
implementation of anti- slavery laws
African traffickers face a low risk of arrest, prosecutions or other negative consequences that what’s makes them active.
Even when the traffickers are caught in boarder gate trafficking people the victims are re-trafficked and polices are bribed by the traffickers.
