Organizations For Chinese Human Rights

There are many organizations in the world that fight for equal rights for everyone in every country. Three of these organizations that help the Republic of China are Unicef, The China Support Network, The China Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International. These three organizations help to educate the community about human rights in other countries and how we can help.

The China Support Network

The Chinese Support Network tries to solve problems such as the conflict between China and Tibet. They give us articles and speeches about why we should help China. They started supporting democracy in 1989 when a group of Chinese college students began promoting democracy, demanding freedom, democracy, and better leaders. All of their protests were peaceful and never involved violence. These protests caught the attention of a wide variety of people from labor leaders, to journalists, and everything in between. Eventually, millions of Chinese citizens joined in with these protests. Over time, they were able to take control of the Tiananmen Square, which was a major site in the center of China's capital. During the time of these protests, a major power struggle was taking place in China. On June 3-4 1989, Chinese tanks and military began shooting the protesters in the Tiananmen Square, who were, unarmed. 3,000 people were killed, and 10,000 were wounded. The China Support Network was founded by Americans who heard of this tragic incident and felt the need to help the cause. This group also allows you to make a general donation, one that will help to fund everything for the the China Support Network. The organizations website can be found here. The website provides you with a large variety of information on human rights in China. They talk about major issues that are happening in China right now,

The China Human Rights Watch

The China Human Rights Watch promotes and discusses human rights in China. They talk about media censorship and about how the people of China are shielded from a lot that goes on in their own country. They give various ways in which we can help and take action to help the people of China. The human rights watch by itself, does research and work their hardest to help all countries around the world. The human rights watch originally started out as the Helsinki Watch in 1978, which monitored Soviet bloc countries. More watches were formed around the world, until they all came together in 1988 to form the Human Rights Watch. They have offices in New York, London, Moscow, Paris, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, and Washington. The Human Rights Watch has lead an international coalition, or union, to stop and ban the use of child soldiers. Their hard work and effort has raised the age ban to participate in armed conflict, or basically, war, to eighteen. They allow us to donate which in turn will pay of translators, which will help us learn more about China. This organizations website can be found here.

Amnesty International

Amnesty international is a worldwide group that campaigns for human rights for everyone. The first started campaigning in 1961 and now have over 2.2 million members. Amnesty International campaigns against violence against women, controlling weapons, and more. They try very hard to get rid of the death penalty, protect refugees and migrants, and oppose torture and terror. On this website they cover everything about Chinese Human Rights, from religion, to women and children. They have up to date articles on large issues in foreign countries. Amnesty International began in 1961 when a British lawyer, named Peter Benenson published an international campaign 'Appeal for Amnesty 1961' in The Observer newspaper. This article was published in newspapers across the world, and was, the beginning of Amnesty International. In 1965 Amnesty International published its first reports on the conditions of the prisons in Portugal, South Africa, and Romania. This also helped the United States to get rid of the death penalty for political, or nonviolent offenses. Now, in 2007 Amnesty International is still campaigning against the death penalty. They are supported by the donations of members and supporters. The organizations website can be found here.

Unicef

Unicef is an organization that works extremely hard to help children around the world. UNICEF addresses different issues in China, such as the under-five mortality rate, which has decreased dramatically since 1990. The under-five mortality rate is the amount of children who die under age five. They help countries during emergencies, raising money and collecting donations. But, they fight hard for gender equality and women's and children's rights. An example of their help in other countries is their help in Zambia. Recently, on March 19. 2008 UNICEF sent fifty-eight schools-in-a-box to Zambia. Each box contained enough school supplies for 100 children. They will be providing $139,000 in supplies for emergencies for Zambia. They do this for many countries in distress. With the help of our donations and fundraising, UNICEF is able to help those who are in need. In this website, you can find a large variety of statistics, which include HIV AIDS, education, economics, women, child protection, and rate of progress.
