Acid rain is a term to describe acid precipitation. It is caused by the release of sulfur (sulfuric acid)
The reason that acid rain is common in so many parts of China is because of the usage of large amounts of coal, as there can be up to 4% of sulfuric gasses in some types of coal. The rise in sulfur oxide (the main component of acid rain) is produced by the industrial plants in China. As more and more industrial plants are being placed in China, the more and more coal is being used to power these processes, and as more sulfuric gasses being let off into the air, the higher risk of acid rain. But, also many appliances in your house also let of some sulfuric gasses. As the population in China gets larger, so do the amount of appliances being bought and used, and the effect of this is causing more sulfuric gasses to be let into the air.
The damages that the rain is causing are loss of crops and crop land as well as habitats of many animals in the Chinese ecosystems such as aquatic animals, the rain is also having a massive effect on the amounts of food near rivers and lakes. As more and more money is lost for more and more crops are lost. Which puts a very large dent into Chinese Economy. Acid rain dose not seem like a big deal but it is hurting the earth and the economy in China, as well as the health of many people living in China. Acid rain is the precipitation form of acid water, but before it rains, all the acid is kept in the air. This is doing nothing to improve our health because as we breath in the acid and it gives young children asthma, and causes too many premature deaths. The acid in the air and acid rain is doing nothing to our health, crops, and Chinese economy.
