China's Enviromental Issues-Air Pollution
One of the most crucial factors of China's environmental issues is air pollution. Burning more than 1.5 tons of coal, China is polluting the air more than producing energy. There are also the machines that run on fossil fuels. China is presently the largest contributor of emmison of greenhouse gases in the world. China gives off more carbon dioxide than three United States put together. China is so large with an even larger population that is still growing, China requires a vast amount of energy to support and supply it. Unfortunatley, China's struggle to support itself is hurting its Senvironment as well.
The pollution in the air from China is affecting the temperature rise in Earth's atmosphere. This temperature rise is also afffecting the enviroment, causing even more environmentl issues. Fires and massive rainstorms are some the products of global warming. Fires can burn down acres of crops and land, making it difficult to feed China's growing population. Massive rainstorms can cause the flooding of fields and landslides. The temperature rise also causes acid rain , which can destroy vegetation and kill animals very quickly. Making it even harder to feed China and to keep the environmental issues under control.
China is hurting itself. China is the second largest contributor to global warming in the world. Global warming is making China's environmental issues even worse. According to NASA , China's contineuous release of carbon dioxide and other harmful toxins is turning China's atmosphere a clearly viasble brown pigment, as viewed from space. As stated before, there could be fires, rainstorms, flooding and landslides. With the dry and hot conditions from global warming, fires could spark extremely easily. The fires will burn all the vegetation, including crops and even buildings. With heavy precipitation, there would be nothing to absorb the water. With all the vegetation burned out from fires, a numerous amount of landslides may occur, wiping out homes, buildings, crops and even people. Next to landslides, there could be floods. Farming land could be demolished, removing the soils'precious top soil, which is full of nutrients and minerals. Growing crops would be even harder, not to mention the growing popultaion of China. These enviromental issues could cause China to raise taxes to cover for all the destruction caused by the natural disasters.
China's air condittions may effect the 2008 Olympics. The upcoming Olympics are strving for "green games," to host the best games known. Unfortunatley, China is struggling to meet its goal and promises. China was found to have the world's highest amount of nitrogen dioxide, smog gas from the burning of fossil fuels, including coal and gas. This toxic gas can cause lung damage, jepordizing the welfare of China's people; and the Olympic atheletes. There is also evidence of toxic particles floating in the air, which can cause several respiratory diesases. If these conditions continue, the Olympics may have to be held elsewhere.
Some people have been boycotting the Olympics because of the terrible environment conditions.
In conclusion, air pollution is a huge factor to China's environental issues. The huge mass of air pollution is adding to the unstoppable natural disasters. These diasters are therefore adding more problems to China's long and growing list. Air pollution is one of the largest factors of China's environmental issues.
