What are mood disorders?
Scientists believe that mood disorders are caused by several chemical imbalances in the brain. They say that the environment the person is in can also be a big part in the occurence of a mental illness. Mood disorders can be treated in many ways but are mainly treated with medicine. They are very common and many people will suffer from one in their lifetime. Some of these disorders can be serious and long lasting or maybe life threatening. A mood disorder means that the emotional mood of person is distorted or doesn't fit with the situation they're in. Common mood disorders include Bipolar Disorder, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and Clinical Depression.
What can I do?
If you think that someone close to you may be suffering from a mood disorder such as clinical depression, be supportive. They will be going through a rough time in their life and need all the help they can get. If possible, get a doctor to help. This way you will be able to combat it and help them get through it.
