The name "Amazon" drifts of "horsewomen" fighting of the Greek mythology. According to the legend, the horsewomen were belonging to one tribe, commanded by Hipólita, which was not accepting men: the children male were killed while being born. Horsewoman means without breast, in Greek, because the legend also say that these women had the breasts cut to better handle with the arches.
The main representatives of the Amazonian culture are the “cablocos” and Indians. They know well the forest and they know how to take care of it. They are considered very important for ambient conservation. Although few and heterogeneous, around 150 a thousand, the Indians can live in extensive areas and they have cultures considered already in extinguishing. |
