These flower-like types of coral are normally 2.5 inches long. They live on virtually any hard surface, with large polyps on the end of each tube. The polyps open to feed at night and usually close during the day.

Many people say that these corals look like brains.  This is a picture of a healthy brain coral. They are about 8 inches wide.
