About Us:

How We Got Our Idea

Once when we, Abha and Alka went to India to visit friends and family, we found out that on the way our dad was going to Bhopal to visit an old engineering school classmate. We vaguely remembered that he had been talking about some gas tragedy victims. We did a little research, and we found out so much about the lives of the survivors! We asked our Dad if our whole family could go to Bhopal. In Bhopal, everything, and everyone's problems became more apparent. We were so touched by the people's stories, and what they were going through, that we wanted to let the world know about it. We realized, that for the amount of people suffering, almost nobody we knew, knew anything about it! We were thinking about how to spread awareness about this around, and one fine day, we found ThinkQuest! Thus, our idea was born.

Creation Of the Website

Our team lives hours away from each other, so it was almost impossible for us to be able to meet. Even if it was possible, we were all busy with individual schedules, and commitments. So, we didn't work on the website together like the ideal situation would've allowed us to, but we planned online, chatted on instant-messaging programs, and staged inter-computer meetings. We would be on the phone, calling to talk and help each other out, giving one another suggestions, collaborating, and discussing. When we weren't on the phone, or on instant-messaging our way of communication was email. We would email each other web pages, graphics, text, and whatever we needed. Even though it was hard that we couldn't see each other, we managed to get work done! It was very inspiring to see other websites, and we hope that we can match our skill levels up with them.

Team Members!- Team A.S.K.A.

(Team Alka.Shouvik.Koushik.Abha.)

Alka

I'm fourteen years old, and I live near Los Angeles, USA. As the co-team leader, I have discovered a lot about website design, teamwork, and compromise. It has been very enlightening finding out about the processes going into making a website, and I really had a lot of fun & educational moments involved with it. In contributing to the website, implemented the search box, helped write some of the css, designed the basic the layout and its main structure (mostly on paper), wrote some of the substance on the website, wrote the music to the slideshow, edited all writing, looked for plagiarism, helped Abha take the interviews, and was the main photographer behind all the pictures that were taken by Team A.S.K.A on the website (Abha took the rest). Like everyone else, I also found quotes, helped to find bugs in our website and fix them, and staged & planned meetings. My hobbies include reading, biking, going to school, spending time with my friends, playing soccer, window shopping, playing and listening to music, climbing trees, watching TV, and writing.

Shouvik

I am fifteen years old, and live in Northern California, USA. As the other team co-leader I have learned about how to construct a website as well as how to manage and work together with a group. I helped to build the website, designed the basic skeleton, and outlay, did some some of the basic graphics, worked with the html, and wrote some of the articles on the website. I also, like everyone else, helped to find bugs, and host meetings. To me, one of the most interesting aspects of the project was trying to make the website compatible with multiple browsers and have the formatting remain constant. My hobbies include reading and playing the piano.

Koushik

I am thirteen years old, and I live close to Monterey, California, USA. I have done most of the graphics design for our web page, as well as some the writing and web site creation. I have learned a lot about using Adobe Photoshop, which was what I mainly used to design the banner, icons, and other various images integrated into our web site. I enjoy playing golf and playing the violin. Some of my other hobbies are reading, drawing, origami, and playing ultimate frisbee.

Abha

I’m twelve years old and I live in (the southern part) California, USA. Throughout this whole website experience, I have learned about the key parts to a great ThinkQuest team: cooperation, skills, and teamwork. My sister and I visited Bhopal and were touched by their stories so we decided to enroll ourselves in this competition. As a member, I helped contribute by writing my share about Bhopal, finding the Bhopal quiz, helped Alka take the interviews, did the glossary, did the bibliography, helped to take some pictures, I found quotes, and found many bugs on our website.  I also made our introductory video, and helped Koushik make graphics.  Some of my hobbies include scrapbooking, riding my scooter, hiking, going to school, being with my friends, climbing trees, making art, and listening to music. I discovered many new things about designing and hope to make more websites in the future.

Special Thanks To:

Many, many people! First of all, we would like to thank all of our parents, who not only didn't get bothered by our long phone calls, and constant computer usage, but supported us the whole way! Also, thanks for taking us to Bhopal, it was a very eye-opening experience.

Animesh, you were so helpful in teaching us the basics of cascading style sheets, and helping us when we didn't know what certain html meant.

We couldn't have done it without our coach either. Ms. Ware, you were very helpful, and your critique got us far.

All the people who let us interview them. Especially thanks to the Sambhavna Trust Clinic, as they ferried us around, let us take pictures, and showed us people to interview. Without your clinic, there would have been almost no base for this website!

All the websites who let us use their free software! They really jazzed up our website, its quality, and its enjoyability. (see Bibliography)

All the foundations who let us use their pictures. They were very great, and touching, and it really surprised us to see how many people wanted to help us out. Once again, see our Bibliography.

Lastly, thank you ThinkQuest, for providing a means through which we could help out all those people, those survivors in Bhopal. We hope that we can make a difference.
