Other symptoms

People with autism can also have these following features. These, however, do not need to be taken into consideration when making a diagnosis:
- Abnormalities of eating, drinking, sleeping
- Changes of mood, such as sudden excitement and misery without any reason
- Over or under activity
- Poor motor co-ordination including clumsiness, odd gait and posture
- Special talents: about 10% of autistic children have some special skills or talents - for example, art, music or number. These skills are at much higher level than the rest of their abilities, or even than those of children at their age.
