Thinkquest
Thinkquest is the annual Educational Site Competition sponsored by Oracle Education Foundation. The competition enables students from around the world to compete in teams, which can be formed with six students and two coaches at maximum, to create educational websites on various subjects. ThinkQuest started in 2000 and has become more and more popular among students from all over the world, since it has challenged students to think and explore their true abilities in teamwork, utilization of technology and problem solving. In ThinkQuest, the difference between rich and poor countries, cultures and languages does not exist. The only thing that counts is the spirit of teamwork, the desire to learn from others and from the students themselves, and the realization of the strength of computers and technology. With ThinkQuest, the internet has proved its importance in connecting people and enabling students from even under-developed countries to have equal chances to get access to huge sources of knowledge.
There are awards to give to the winners. Each year there is ThinkQuest Live, the event which is held in San Francisco, US for winning teams around the world to celebrate their achievements. The winning teams will attend fun activities like touring the city, attending workshops, and attend the gala awards ceremony which is the highlight of ThinkQuest Live. Each student and coach will get valuable awards for their achievements such as laptops and digital cameras. But most important, teams from around the world will have a chance to enjoy themselves, with some team members meeting each other for the first time!
