Solutions - Religious Harmony

Not all nations associated with terrorism actually believe in the institution itself. Saudi Arabia recently made huge concessions in the fight for equality between Muslims, Christians and Jews. King Abdullah proposed that representatives from these religions should get together, establish unity, and strive jointly to reduce religiously based political tensions.

Abdullah points out that the increasing tensions between these common religions is unacceptable within the context of the Quran, Torah, and the Bible. He shows that these religions all agree in the justice of god, and that the lack of ethics experienced by the modern world is truly a dent in the history of mankind.

In response, Israel’s Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger welcomed Abdullah’s statement and stated that "Our hand is outstretched to any peace initiative and any dialogue that is aimed at bringing an end to terror and violence… Religion is all too often the problem, so it has to also be the solution, or at least part of the solution, and I think that the tragedy of the political initiatives to bring peace has been the failure to include the religious dimension."

Even more so, Abdullah even met with Pope Benedict, thus commencing the first ever such meeting between a Saudi monarch and a pope. He discussed his ideas about this new religious tolerance and unity with Pope Benedict XVI.

These peace talks can ultimately usher in a new period of history where people of different religions and ethnic groups try to find common ground. Abdullah is considering consulting the United Nations for his proposal if these agreements are reached.
