Solutions - International Cooperation

No single person, single army, or lone country can end the far-reaching issue of terrorism on its own. Only through international cooperation can we have, and continue to make progress. The largest organization dedicated to this cause is the United Nations.

United Nations
The UN has been working for many years to address the issue of terrorism. There have already been thirteen conventions, featuring attendance from many countries. All these conventions discussed specific terrorist acts.

The Security Council has aided in this task of countering terrorism by establishing several auxiliary institutions and resolutions. Moreover, many agencies of the United Nations system have been assigned the task of helping Member States in their efforts as well as undertaking specific actions against terrorism themselves.

A new policy was introduced on September 8, 2006 and launched on September 19, 2006. This policy was in essence a common unified strategy that countries around the world would use to combat terrorism. This strategy institutes a basic plan of action: it addresses conditions that aid in spreading terrorism; it works in more direct ways to prevent and fight terrorism; it helps build up state power in order to fight terrorism; and it insists that the respect of human rights must always be taken into account while combating terrorism.

Thus the efforts of the UN clearly show that world leaders are ready to wield their enormous power to stamp out terrorism in its entirety...
