There are innumerable diseases debilitating or even killing millions of children, under the age of 5, every year. In many developing (like India) or under-developed countries (like sub-Saharan Africa), these diseases affect innumerable children. Some examples are:
- Hepatitis
- Smallpox (eradicated now)
- Tuberculosis
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella
- Chickenpox
- Polio
Most of these diseases are preventable by administering the right dosage of vaccines at right age. The administration of vaccines is called vaccination. There are mainly 2 methods of vaccination.
- Injection e.g. MMR
- Oral administration e.g. Polio
Thanks to scientists like Edward Jenner and Louis Pasteur, we have vaccines against 28 diseases.
If administered to all children properly, many premature deaths can be averted. |
