Mars and Earth are very similar when it comes to cold hard facts.  They have similar masses, they both have mountain structures and volcanoes which indicate a history of a similar geological system, and the both have weather phenomenon which indicates an active atmosphere – sadly though much of this is in Mars’s history.  Now Mars contains more rock, dust, and rust on its dry barren surface.  But all that can be changed.  It merely needs a reawakening – a massive interplanetary terraforming project.
