
The Mastic-tree is an evergreen bush. It is grows slowly and reaches 2-3 meters. It grows completely in 40-50 years and lives more than 100 years. Many people say that there are Mastic-trees more than 200 years old. It produces mastic from 5th up to his 70th year. The quantity of mastic that comes out of it ranges between 320 gr and (rarely) 1k. The male trees give better quality of mastic.
The Mastic-tree is a tough plant, but not proof against frost. A new Mastic-tree can be planted from the branches of an old one.
The mastic-tree grows at many places all over the world but only in the northeastern part of Chios island in Greece produces mastic.
In particular only at the north part of the island that it is called mastic villages.
