Poem 1 - Old People's Nursing Home Eyes
by Todd-Michael St. Pierre
Look into my window,
Observe synthetic flowers
Swaying to a ceiling fan breeze,
And a wallflower, wheelchair- bound at that.
For hours I look out
I see concrete, undernourished shrubs,
Cars and bikes rush by
And they keep me company.
Faded draperies
Speak for years that have fallen behind me.
Suddenly a slave to nostalgia
And withered memories.
Do you see the photographs on my vanity?
Notice how they stare back at me
With abstract smiles for the elderly.
I know they are too busy.
Everyone has his own life to live.
I understand!
Hey . . . would you look into my world?
Share a thought?
Poem 2 - How Lucky Am I
How lucky am I!
How lucky am I!
Do you know why?
I know I am lucky
Because my grandparents
Live with me.
They love me and nurture me.
My grandpa shares
His birthday with me.
He is seventy-two years young
And I am twelve years old.
He tells me folk lores of yore
And I don’t get bored.
He teaches me mathematics,
He teaches me prayers .
My grandpa gave me his little finger
So that I could learn to walk,
I shall be his walking stick
When he needs me.
My grandma cooks all
That I relish,
She feeds me
What is yummy.
She saves me
From grandpa’s anger
When I do mischief.
I have loving parents
Who take good care
Of my grandparents and me.
Now is’nt my family a
Truly happy and lovely family.
I am lucky, really lucky.
Poem 3
Grandparents bestow upon
their grandchildren
the strength and wisdom that time
And experiences have given them.
Grandchildren bless their Grandparents
with a youthful vitality and innocence
that help them stay young at heart forever.
Together they create a chain of love
linking the past with the future.
The chain may lengthen,
But it will never part....
Poem 4 - A Tribute to Wonderful Parents
The most brilliant flower
In the garden of life
Is my Mom and my Dads life
You held me close when I was ill
You showed me laughter, gave me a pill.
When I would cry
You would wipe my tears
You would say now, now
And calm my fears.
Mother and Father
You are the best
You couldn’t be better
You beat all the rest.
Poem 5 - My grandmother
She takes me with her to the supermarket.
She chooses with love and care
All the teeny-weenies that I crave.
Oh! How happy I am!
She waits for me with open arms,
When I come home from school.
My home is filled with her warmth and love.
She is my grandmother.
She sings me lullabies to sleep.
She wakes me with her prayers.
She and I are the best of friends.
I shall let you on to a secret.
She and I play computer games
About which not even my parents know.
She has a special place in my heart
For there is no one like her.
She is the best grandmother on earth.
