A learning experience from elders to one of our team members

Interview with my Grandparents

 

Me :Where were you born?
Thatha(grandfather): Paati(grandmother) and I were born in Thanjavur district.
Me:In which school did you study?
Grandfather:I studied in Tiruvarur Govt. school.
Grandmother:I studied in Town high school,Kumbakonam.
Me:Were you mischievous in your childhood?
Grandfather:This question is not applicable to us.In those days, children were expected to be obedient and respectful to all elders.The children were brought up in such a way that whatever parents and elders said, it was observed as 'Veda vaaku' (in Tamil) meaning "The absolute truth"

Me: Where were you employed?
Grandfather: I was employed in the Telecommunications Department.

Me: When were you married?
Grandfather: We were married on 21st May 1958 at Neduntheru,our village.My father and your grandmother's father were close friends from childhood.The year 2008 is a special year for us, as we shall be completing fifty years, that is golden jubilee of happy married life.

Me: Did you live with your parents after marriage?
Grandfather:Nowadays the joint family system is slowly breaking down.But in those days we lived in a joint family.There was lot of mutual understanding amongst us.

Me:What values did your parents inculcate in you?
Grandparents:No specific advice was given by our parents.We learnt everything by observing the elders,how they treated others and how they brought us up.

Me: What message do you wish to convey to the youth of today?
Grandparents:The youth should give proper and absolute respect to the elders.

Me:Thank you.I have learnt a lot today.Please bless me so that I shall be successful in all my ventures.
Grandparents:Tathastu(So be it).
