Kendriya Vidyalaya I, Pondicherry: Golden Citizens of the Globe
A serene, pleasant and bright future for the "Golden Citizens"
Respecting GOLDEN CITIZENS- The need of the hour
Golden citizens, of late, have become a topic of heated debate and discussion all over the world due to a variety of reasons. Generally, over the world, the categorisation of a Golden Citizen is purely based upon his/her age. It can vary anywhere between 55 and 65. A very painful definition of a golden citizen has been given as "a person who lacks basic motor skills and the ability to drive, stand up straight, hear, walk, think clearly, or provide financial support for him/her self." But surprisingly, many people above 60 years of age play active roles in the running of industries and governments. Hence, the above definition is contradicted and thus, false. Golden citizens are GOLDEN not only because of their age but also because of their wide experience, which is more than the youngsters present all over the world and ultimately, as CITIZENS, they should have an active say in the country. But, as the citizens slide into the GOLDEN CITIZEN slot, they automatically undergo a mental trauma, as the society and government start treating them as a burden on the existing system. But, the more disturbing aspect is the growing distance in human relationships at all levels. Kind words are at a premium today. The young are busy with their careers, the middle-aged with achieving prestige and position, and everyone with the increasing competition and the resultant rat race. Golden citizens must be extended a hand of support, words of solace and some healing touches. Unsolicited advice is unwelcome, but a heart-to-heart talk can do wonders. The relationships are good when the elder and younger citizens have their own independent spheres of freedom and mutual respect. Under these conditions, it is easy for them to be together and enjoy each other's company. The area where Golden citizens suffer the most is the lack of concern by the government and the society for the practical difficulties they face in their daily life.
Our target audience is from the age group of seven and this website will help the audience understand psychological and emotional needs of the 'Golden citizens'. With the advent of nuclear families, modern ways of living and greater life expectancy of the citizens, the position of many unfortunate 'Golden Citizens' has become precarious. As per the survey conducted by 'Help age India', 30% of the population would be above 60 years and majority would be women by 2050. So it is the need of the hour to educate the younger generation the need to treat the 'Golden Citizens' with dignity..
