The Location of Vietnam

Vietnam is located on the southeastern corner of Mainland Asia. It is south of China and east of Laos and Cambodia. On the eastern and southern borders is the South China Sea. Vietnam is also geographically shaped like an "S". The capital city is Hanoi and is located in the North.

A Brief History

For a long time, Vietnam was controlled by the Chinese. The Chinese influenced Vietnam and showed them their customs. But in 1887, it came under the rule of the French. Then it was considered a part of French Indochina. The French controlled vietnam until they were defeated by Ho Chi Minh and his followers. Ho Chi Minh was a communist and started a war within the country. Vietnam split into two parts - the North and the South. The Vietnam War did not end until 1975. The Communists won. But now Vietnam is a upcoming nation again although many people are still scarred by the long war.
