Fire prevention and safety Guidelines

  • Do never throw lighted cigarettes or matches in the forest
  • Don't burn garbage or dry grass outdoors
  • Don't start fire in agricultural land areas near forests
  • Never leave flammable material and garbage in the forest, like bottles or glass
  • During summer don't barbecue in forest or in areas with dry grass
  • Avoid to use equipment outdoors such as weldor that might cause a fire
  • Do not park your car on dry grass
  • Clean reguralry your house roof and your garden from garbage, branches and leaves
  • Create "fire preventing lanes" around your house
  • Never leave an open fire unattended
  • Keep wood and other flammable material in a safe distance from your house
  • Don't use fireworks near forest
  • Make a fire action plan so that everyone in your home know how to escape if there is a fire.

Instructions in case of fire

  • In case of fire call 199 (Greece) and give information about location and intensity of the fire. Run away from the fire in a safe place.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a piece of clothe or a towel, to be protected from smoke and heat
  • If you're trapped by fire run in a place without trees and bushes. If you are near a street lay down with your face to the ground and cover yourself with anything you'll find until the fire is gone.
  • In case your clothes catch fire, stop. Do not run around. Drop gentrly to the ground, cover your face with your hands and roll over and over to to smother the flames. Cool the burn with water and call for help
  • If someones' clothes were to catch fire try to wrap him in a blanket or some other heavy material and help him roll on the ground
  • Wear protective clothe
  • Don't hinder firemen and don't block the roads used for fire trucks
