Nowadays,
old buildings in Yogyakarta have experienced many alterations in their
functions or their shapes, such as Taman Sari that now is used as a tourism
place and also Inna Garuda Hotel and Malioboro Mall that the shapes have
been changed. Of course, we are anxious about the buildings at past. What did they look like? What were the functions? What is the uniqueness of those buildings? |

Garuda
in this era has European style just like when it was in 1941. But, the
building in 1941 was not high and only had one floor. The model was simple
and the building was not as big as the building in this era. The function
has not changed up to now. |
By
those two photos, we can see that there are a few buildings in Malioboro
in 1936 and the buildings were old. It’s different to Malioboro
nowadays which has many buildings and most of the buildings are modern.
In 1936, most of the buildings only had one floor and the model was simple.
The road and the sidewalk were wider because there were only a few buildings
there. Now, the road and the sidewalk are much more narrow and so is the
sidewalk. Malioboro nowadays becomes more crowded than in 1936. |
The
condition of Taman Sari nowadays is better than when it was in 1881. That
all because of an earth quake on the 27th of May, 2006, the buildings
experienced many damage. Then, the government renovated it till it became
like now. Unfortunately, there are some changes that happen there. The
wall was not painted but now it’s painted with young brown paint.
The function also changes. First, Taman Sari was the place where the king
and his family rested. But, now it becomes a tourism place. |
