The Beginning

Did you know that dur the during the creation myth of Norse times people evolved from armpits and feet? Is it really true that ice and fire made contact a giant and a cow formed? It's true and there are many other fascinating facts about the creation of Norse Mythology.
It started with two worlds; Muspelheim (fire) and Nifflheim (ice). One time the scorching air of Muspelheim collided with the icy air of Nifflheim an icy cow (Adhumbla) and a giant (Ymir) was born. Soon Ymir' foot bred a son and a man and woman emerged from his armpits. This made him the ancestor of Jotuns or giants. The next night Ymir slept the intense heat of Musspelheim caused Ymir to sweat a whole gaint, Surtr of fire.
One day while Ymir was feeding on Adhumbla's milk Adhumbla licked a salted stone. During the next couple of days a human's body appeared. His name was Búri and he fathered Bor, the father of three gods who were Odin, Vili, and Ve.

After hours of labor the gods finally felt strong enough to overthrow Ymir and they succeded. Ymir's blood flooded the world and downed evey single giant except for two. This didn't stop the giants race though. The giants grew in numbers and soon there were more giants than ever before. Then the gods created seven more worlds with Ymir's body parts. They used Ymir's flesh for dirt,  his blood for water, his bones for stone, his brain as the clouds, and his skull for the heavens. Sparks from Muspelheim soared up and become stars.

Later when the gods were strolling through the worlds they spotted two tree tunks. With their power they tansformed the trunks into the shape of humans. Odin gave them life, Vili gave them mind, and Ve gave them the ability to hear, see, and speak. The gods each gave them names too. They were called Ask and Embla. The gods also built them the Middle-Earth for them to live. A giant fence made out of Ymir's eye-lashes to keep the giants out. That was how the Middle-Earth, where we live now, was created.

  The End of Time
The old Norse future is very foggy. It is said that Yggdrasil will destruct and the gods will be defeated by other members or branches of Yggdrasil. The forces of chaos will overthrow the divine human guardians. Loki's bond with his childen will be destroyed, the dead from Nifflheim will attack the living, and the watchman of the gods, Heidmall, will summon the heavenly hosts. Then the final battle between order and chaos begins. This is also known as Ragnarök. The gods will be defeated like their own fate. Since they know all about this they gathered and trained the finnest warriors, like Einherjar. He will fight along with the gods when that day comes, but the will be powerless against the chaos that has descended upon them destroying their world. The chaos always takes over, but a new and better world always emerges from the ashes after the war. Odin will be devoured by Fenrir. Thor will murder Jörmungander, but will drown in venom. Loki is the last to die. He will die of a wound from Heimdall, which during this he tried to kill the god of chaos but missed because of Heimdall.
Although the gods were destined to be defeated along with the world and everything else, everything elese will be born again.
