History

In 3 B.C.E. something big happened. Italy became one united nation under the control of the Romans. In the 5th century A.D., Rome, the capital of Italy, was taken over by Germanic invaders. Sadly, what seemed like a new age in 800 A.D. was the exact opposite. Popes and emperors fought for 5 centuries.

While the leaders were fighting, many foreign invaders took advantage of the situation to conquer southern Italy and Sicily. In northern Italy many city and states formed, Venice being the biggest. Genoa, Florence, Milan and Sianna were large also.

The Renaissance was inspired by 15th century north Italian artists and scholars. By this time Italy was divided into many areas. The south was easy pickings for Spain. Likewise, the north for Austria. Peidimont was a small kingdom that managed to stay independent until it ll to Napoleon in 1796.

During the 19th century, Peidimont was a focus for a united Italy. They achieved that goal in 1870 thanks to the Garibaldi military.

Fascists took power in 1922 and monarchy was abandoned for democracy in 1946.
