All About MIDI
History of MIDI Music By the end of the 1970s, the economy was already booming, and people could afford to buy electronic musical devices. However, different devices produced by different manufacturers couldn't be interconnected, therefore it was extremely inconvenient. In order to solve this problem, in 1981, Dave Smith of Sequential Circuits, Inc., who is an audio engineer and synthesizer designer, proposed the MIDI standard to the Audio Engineering Society in paper. This became an enthusiastic topic among the industry. In August 1983, the MIDI Specification 1.0 was published. Today, Dave Smith is regarded as the "Father of MIDI" . MIDI technology has been standardized and is maintained by the MIDI Manufacturers Association (MMA).
