Puppy Mills - A Vicious Cycle of Cruelty
Chew on this...
  • Puppy mills are facilities that over breed puppies in outrageously large numbers purely for profit. They sell the puppies directly, through brokers, online or through pet stores.
  • Breeder dogs spend their entire life caged in filthy environment.
  • Both breeder dogs and the puppies at the mills receive minimal veterinary care, poor quality food, barely any human socialization, no freedom or exercise.
  • Unwanted breeder dogs are mercilessly put to death when they are no longer fertile.
  • Puppies are taken away from the mothers very young, packed in crates and transported across states to reach brokers and pet shops for sale; the puppies do not receive enough food, water, rest or shelter during the transport.

Vicky's Story

Tina, a twelve-year-old German Shepherd, was found walking near a busy road in Massachusetts. She was pale, weak, and appeared to be extremely sick. She was brought to the nearest animal shelter.

To the shelter's astonishment, they noticed the dog had a tag with a USDA breeder license number. She had been a breeder dog for a puppy mill and now that she was old and spent they abandoned her. The shelter was able to get money to pay for Vicky's veterinary care. The vet discovered that Vicky was extremely sick. Her uterus was in terrible shape and she had so many issues. They had to perform surgery on her. During the surgery, the vet found numerous tumors and they decided that it was best not to wake her up from surgery. Despite trying their best to save Vicky, they had to lay her to rest.

Think and talk about Vicky's story next time you hear someone talk about buying a puppy. Don't support puppy mills.
