Barriers are challenges that learners needs to deal with. The most common barriers facing learners include reading , writing , problem solving ( math ) , etc

Learners having special needs are associated with learning and behavioral problems. Sometimes the barrier is within i.e. language or speech deficiency sometimes it is outside the child. A learner that is i.e. hard of hearing will not be able to hear everything the teacher says and will miss out a lot. A learner with poor visual perception cannot see clearly on the board. Teachers should be mindful of the different colour combinations they use on the board.
That in itself will also create a barrier as you can write incorrect from the board. Another barrier is the language or speech deficiency that is within the learner. There are barriers within and without the classroom environment.
Children who cannot read will face reading barriers and lots of reading difficulties.Hand –eye-co-ordination is important to any child’s growth. Children have one dominant eye , hand and foot that they use mostly. Teachers prefer that the child’s hand, eye, and foot dominants are established by the time they reach grade1.  Established in this case means the child has already developed a preference to use one eye , one hand and one foot more than the other. If the dominants is not established then a child may experienced problems with learning in class Not being able to read or to write may have an impact on the learning ability of a child and it could be huge barrier for learners.

If the school does not cater for the child's specific needs then the school is actually a learning barrier and that might cause the child to feel unhappy and in order to cope they might use incorrect ways of coping for example he might feel that he doesn't need to pay attention because nobody understands him. Therefore, he disobeys teachers he disobeys his parents he fights with other children because he feels that his learning problem the way he feels in class. If certain spelling rules were not established learners may experience writing problems. Learners with a low self esteem may experience behavioral problems. On the other hand , if the learning material is too difficult the learner may become aggressive. In many schools many children cannot do their work because they either can’t concentrate or at times it could be the learner choosing not to learn. People will think certain learners have learning disabilities but the learners themselves choose not to listen/learn.
