The most popular skateboarder, as everyone knows, is Tony Hawk. Unless you have lived in a box for the past 20 years, you know him as a retired skateboarder who is still very famous today. Hawk was born May 12th 1968 and was different from other kids. When he was 8, Hawk tried to swim an Olympic pool without taking a breath, and of course failed. The doctors said he had an 8-year-old body with a 12-year-old mind. Hawk first got introduced to skateboarding when his brother gave him his first skateboard and he was a natural. When he was 12 he got sponsored and by 14, Hawk had turned pro. By 16, he was the new champion. Hawk entered 103 contests from 14-17 and won 1st in 73 and placed 2nd in 19 of them. His career was going over the top wtih skateboarding until it was abruptly stopped. No one knows why though. Maybe it was the loss of interest in the sport and people stopped watching it. Hawk thought his career was over, so he decided to start a new skateboard company. He did not have to stay with the company for very long since after a few years, the sport became popular again and as did Hawk. |
