Maybe it is the thrill of being 20 feet up in the air, maybe you just have a natural talent or maybe you just have a plain love for the sport. Whatever the reason, Extreme Sports have become very popular through the ages. From the normal 10 foot jump of a ramp, professionals would go up to 20 feet. Or going down a mountain 60 miles per hour or even going up the mountain as fast as you can. As the sport categories grow so do the number of people who come to play them. The people who play in these sports are called professionals, as in any type of sport from football to ballet. They are people who are specially trained and qualified to be able to do the activity without being hurt. You do not have to be a certain age to be a professional. Some are as young as 15 or old as 30. When a professional does a sport, he or she sticks with it for many years, until they retire. Retiring is not the same thing as it is in the business world. Retiring from an extreme sport simply means they do not compete in any more events for money and\or medals. They may continue the sport at smaller events for organizations such to raise money, but they do not compete anymore. When a professional retires, he or she will sometimes still earn money, but not as much as before. Why retire then? Sometimes it is because the sport does not capture as much interest as it used to. In worst case scenarios, it is when someone much better comes along, and you are not nearly as famous as you used to be. This only happens when the professional was not as famous as he was intended to be or he was not very famous to begin with. Sometimes the original sponsor might stop sponsoring. Or they just simply might retire because they do not want to compete professionally anymore. There are many famous extreme sport professionals. Some of the most famous that everyone knows are Tony Hawk, Dave Mirra, and Travis Pastrana. The main reason these people are so famous is that they are from America and they go worldwide. When a professional goes worldwide it just means that he or she does not compete in only America. There are many famous professionals who are not from America, but come here to compete. Fabiola Da Silva is one and Layne Beechly is another. These people are not only greatly admired for their ability to do the sport, but these people who stick out are usually famous for doing something most of the other professionals have not. There are many more professionals that are in extreme sports even though they might not be as famous as Dave Mirra or Tony Hawk. Most professionals are not famous because they have not done anything that has caught their audience’s attention or simply because they just do it for the love of the sport. Professionals usually take pride in what they do and work very hard to accomplish their goals.
