Affected Areas

The largest area affected is called El Segundo Barrio and it is one of the oldest neighborhoods in El Paso. El Paso’s basic reality is that it is the sister city to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and the two cities share the same culture, language and traditions

El Segundo Barrio, a city area that most resembles Mexico. This downtown area is where the most recent immigrants from Mexico reside, work and go to school. It is a place where everyone speaks Spanish and these families are most comfortable.

The people there argue that no one has the right to force them to move from a place where they have chosen to live.

In April, 2007, the Land Grab Opponents of El Paso conducted a survey in this area. 8.8% of the voters were against eminent domain, 61.9% were in favor and 29.3% were undecided.
