Abstract

Amphibians are four-legged vertebrates that can live on both land and in water.  Amphibians breathe through their skin. In addition, they are cold-blooded, using the environment to regulate their body temperature. Unfortunately, pollutants can enter their body readily through their skin, which makes them especially sensitive and vulnerable to environmental changes.

Over the past few years, there has been dramatic in amphibian populations worldwide. Amphibian declines are perceived as one of the most critical threats to global biodiversity. Put simply and starkly, this means that without the existence of amphibians, other species may also be affected either directly or indirectly, and may also become endangered or, in the worst-case scenario, become extinct! This has serious repercussions for the biodiversity of global ecology.
