Raising Awareness on Endangered Amphibians

A warm to our webpage entitled “Raising awareness on Endangered Amphibians”. What you've just heard in the Flash animation was the mournful call of the Branded Bull Frog, native to Malaysia, which we managed to record one dark and stormy night, on 5 March 2008, in Pahang, on the East Coast of Malaysia. To listen to it once more, click on play.

Just how endangered are amphibians anyway? You might well ask. Lots of people claim they always see frogs and toads in their gardens, on the streets and in pools of water. So, you may then go on to ask, “Are they endangered in the least bit?”

In fact, the sober truth is that amphibians are extremely endangered, not any less endangered than any other endangered animal that you might be able to name off the bat. There are many causes for the rapidly decreasing number of amphibians in the world around us, many of which are caused directly or indirectly by the activities of us humans.

This point has been overlooked by many people. Thus, Amphibian Ark has declared 2008 as the year of the frog, in a bid to save the amphibians in the world we are living in, from us. Many zoos around the world are working with Amphibian Ark to organize various activities in their various countries. These efforts are to reach out to the public and increase awareness among them.

The “special” section of our webpage is “Working with the Zoo”. Throughout this year, we have and will be continuing to work with the Singapore Zoo to organize the various activities about the Year of the Frog.

This website also contains many elements in an attempt to attract your attention. The Froggy fun facts, known in this website as “froggy facts” throughout the website, is a randomized fun facts not only about frogs and toads, but also about newts and salamanders, which are also part of the amphibian family.

The media section contains many interesting links like a frog game that is original to our team and the Singapore Zoo, which we provided the game with, and many others. There is also a crossword puzzle that you can download and print out to try. These are to help in raising awareness in a fun and interesting way.

Throughout this webpage, we will not only be showing you the research that we have done about amphibians, but also emphasizing the fact that amphibians are slowly getting nearer to extinction. We hope that you will be persuaded through this website to do your part in saving the amphibians that are our fellow living beings.

This website is just a small part of what have been done to save the amphibians - have you done your part?
