
By the end of 1930’s the Europe was at war. Kansas was like a “dust ball” and crops died, and farmers couldn’t make any money. Most people could not afford to buy fashionable clothing. When children grew out their clothes, they would hand it down to smaller children. California led all the states in apparel manufacturing. Los Angeles & San Francisco were the main manufacturing centers. One important reason for this dominance was that the state has a large supply of labor.
