High School Musical is about two teens who meet over Christmas Vacation. One of the teens is Troy Bolton, played by Zac Efron. Troy is a jock. He’s the captain of the East High School basketball team. The other typical teen is Gabriella Montez, played by Vanessa Hudgens. Gabriella is a teen who is smart and shy. She meets Troy at the Ski Lodge by kereoke. The D.J. put the spotlight on them and they started singing “ The Start of Something New”. After Christmas Vacation, Gabriella moved to Alberquerqe, New Mexico. What she didn’t know is Troy lived there. They end up going to the same school.
When Troy and Gabriella find out they go to the same school, Sharpay, played by Ashley Tisdale, doesn’t like how Gabriella and “Troy have been “Cliqueing” Sharpay is the mean, showbiz, kind of girl. Her brother Ryan, played by Lucas Grabeel, is basically her sidekick. Well as Troy was showing Gabriella the school, Sharpay doesn’t like it. So, as Troy and Gabriella were walking past the Winter Musical Sign-Up sheet, Sharpay comes over and signs-up, as always, and she doesn’t feel Troy and Gabriella should be together. She feel’s it should be her and Troy. Sharpay has a few tricks up her sleeves to get Troy to like her.
One day during free period, Troy and Gabriella sneak into the musical try-outs. As all the other singers finished they sat down to see Sharpay and Ryan’s audition. As Sharpay prepares, Kelsi, played by Olesya Rulin, She asks Ryan what key she should play the song in. Well Sharpay and Ryan’s rehearsel pianist has made an arrangement. So as Sharpay and Ryan perform the song “ What I’ve Been Looking for”, Gabriella and Troy watch. After that, Miss Darbus, played by Alyson Reed, asked if there were any last minute sign-ups, Gabriella speaks up. Miss Darbus doesn’t let her audition unless she has a partner. Surprisingly, Troy speaks up. Miss Darbus doesn’t let them audition. Troy tries to convince her but she still won’t let them audition.
As the free period ends, Kelsi falls and drops her papers everywhere. Troy and Gabriella run to help her. After the three of them pick up all the papers Kelsi shows them how the duet is supposed to sound. Troy and Gabriella start to sing. But, they didn’t know is that Miss Darbus could hear them. After the song, Miss Darbus comes in and says, “ Bolton! Montez! You have a callback,” she tells Kelsi to give them the duet from the second act. Kelsi works on it with them.
The next day of school, Sharpay and Ryan come and look at the callback list. They see Troy and Gabriella’s name on it. She screams so loud that the whole school can hear her. Chad Danforth, played by Corbin Bleu, finds out about Troy making the callbacks.
He gets together with Taylor McKessie, played by Monique Coleman, to make sure Troy isn’t worried about an audition. They want him to be focused on the Championship basketball game. Their plan starts the next day.
So as the day starts Chad gets Troy to meet him in the locker room and Taylor tells Gabriella to meet her in the science classroom. So as Chad talks to Troy the whole basketball team tries to tell him to “Get his head in the game”. Then after Taylor is done telling Gabriella why she shouldn’t sing with Troy, Chad puts Troy on a webcam to show Gabriella how he “Really feels”. But what she didn’t know is that Troy didn’t really feel that way. As everybody leaves for lunch and Gabriella stays and starts to cry. As Gabriella starts to leave the classroom, she starts to sing “When There was me and you”. After lunch Troy tries to talk to Gabriella and she thinks he really thought, he didn’t want to sing for the callbacks. The truth is, he really wanted to. Ever since Chad and Taylor’s the ended, Troy couldn’t concentrate and Gabriella is on the Schoalastic Decathalon Team, but she isn’t happy. So as Troy is in his secret hideout, Chad, and two other basketball players, Zeke Baylor, played by Chris Warren Jr., and Jason, played by Ryne Sanbourn, apologize to Troy, Taylor and the Scholastic Decatholan Team apologize to Gabriella.
So when Sharpay and Ryan find out Troy and Gabriella are defiantly going to sing in the callbacks, they make sure the callbacks are the same day, same time as the Basketball game and the Scholastic Decathalon. So Troy, Gabriella, Taylor, Chad, and all their friends, make sure they make it to the callbacks. So, during the game, and during the decathalon, Taylor and Gabriella sent codes to make sure there were technical difficulty during the game and the decathalon. Troy and Gabriella don’t make it in time. But luckily Miss Darbus let’s them sing. As Troy and Gabriella are singing “Breaking Free” Everybody who was watching the basketball game and the Schoalstic Decathalon went to watch the callbacks.
The next day after the Decathalon and the Championship game, everybody is excited because East High won the decathalon and the championship game. Also, Troy and Gabriella are going to play the lead roles, Arnold and Mickey, in the Winter Musical.
