Harmful Materials

The NASA is having a project called ‘Clean Air Study’. The scientists in this project are searching for plants which can clean the air of the spaceships. These plant can lodge much more carbon dioxide and produce much more oxygen than others. The scientist put the plants in closet plexi-glass cell and then injected the materials in. The analyzed 3 materials: trichloroethylene, benzene and formaldehyde.

Trichloroethylene

The trichloroethylene (TCE) is an effective solvent of different types of organic materials. Its formula is C2HCl3. After when it was produced people in the 1920s used it for retrieving vegetal oils, and then from the 1950s up to nowadays we use it for degreasing machines. We also use it in printers, paints, glues, varnish... In 1975 American scientists discovered that it causes cancer. It’s a very big contingency for all of the humans and animals, it can cause irreversible health hazard.

Benzene

The benzene is an important carbon-hydrogen. Its formula is C₆H₆. It is a very wide used solvent. Michael Faraday discovered it in 1825. It irritates the skin and the eyes. It depletes the genetic materials and it’s carcinogenic too. Breathing it in can cause dizziness, headache, powerlessness, nausea, blear-eyes, respiratory organ illnesses, abnormal beat, paralysis.

Formaldehyde

The formaldehyde is an important chemical material. Its formal is H₂CO. People use it for producing plastic and sterilize closed places (gas). It is an dangerous material, it can cause explosion when it mix with air and it can cause fire, or cancer. Breathing it in can irritate the eyes, cause headache and drowning.

Ill Building Syndrome

In the homes and offices – where we try to insulate as much as we can – we can find more and more artificial things. From these the evaporating chemicals can impregnate in the air causing illnesses and diseases. But! with buying and placing some plants in our homes and offices can decrease the risk of these. Combinating this with gassing these places can help to clean these “ill buildings”.
