
• 400 years ago a boy in Edo, now Tokyo, started drawing weird little comics. His name was Hohusai.
• He started studying art in Holland and France. He mixed their style of drawing with his style of drawing and called it Manga, which means ‘whimsical pictures’.
• It was not that popular though until the 20th century when Joseph Pulitzer saw the comics and put them in his newspapers in America.
